The large waterarea between Tjörn and Orust is named Stigfjorden. The fjord has got it’s name from the mountain Stigberget in the west of Stigfjorden. To reach Stigfjorden you have to pass the narrowed straights - Strömsund - Lyresund or Skåpesund. From the rocks at Strömsund - near Björholmen - it’s very popular to watch the sailing race Tjörn Runt. At this place it’s very tight between the boats and the current is obvious.

In Stigfjorden, being a conservation area, there are some nature reservates as Valön and Kälkerön. There are about a hundred of islands and islets by different characters. From the heights around the fjord you have a fine view. Solklinten (107 m above sea level) on Mjörn is one of the easiest place to reach to find a nice view. The shallow water in the north of Stigfjorden, named Kalvöfjorden, is a popular retreat for wading birds and seabirds, especially during the migration season.
